Five major partners join £1m Launchpad competition

British Gas and Cisco are among the leading brands who have pledged their support to a new competition for startups and SMEs that are working on the Internet of Things.

The Launchpad competition is open to European applicants that have a working connection with the London  and Cambridge tech clusters. Winners will receive a share of the £1m prize money to propel their business forward.

The five newest partners join companies EE, John Lewis, Unilever, Seed Camp and Red Gate, who will all offer expertise and practical business support to winners of the competition. Each company will be able to offer industry-specific  support to the winning entrepreneurs, with Cisco providing access to engineering experts, Fab Lab a workspace, RD covering design and manufacture and  British Gas’ Hive offering them the chance to integrate technology into their systems.

We are delighted to add a group of such high-calibre brands to an already great list of Launchpad partners,” said Garard Grech, CEO of Tech City UK. “Working with early stage startups, these companies will provide the mentoring and financial support needed for successful acceleration. Their activity will greatly aid our aim to create an IoT ‘super-cluster’, drawing on the software and marketing expertise of London and the hardware and network expertise of Cambridge.”

The closing date for submissions to Launchpad is the 3rd September 2014.
