Travelling abroad for a business meeting? Make sure you read this first

If you’re heading overseas for an important meeting, it’s absolutely crucial that you understand the cultural norms of your host so that you can make a good impression – and don’t accidentally cause offence.

For example, while punctuality is a relative concept in much of South America, turning up even a few minutes late to a meeting in Germany could seriously damage your chances of a deal. Likewise, a long business lunch is the de facto way to build a working relationship in France, but in China it’s considered rude to talk shop while you eat.
