Startups in the so-called ‘sharing economy’ will be backed by a new UK trade body founded by the likes of Airbnb and Bla Bla Car.
As a non-for-profit voluntary group, Sharing Economy UK (SEUK) will “champion the sector, ensure best practice and act as a single voice for the industry.”
With government backing and a number of global brands on board, the new body may trump UKShareCo, the first UK sharing economy trade body set up last year.
The launch of SEUK follows last year’s publication of an independent review commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, which looked at how the UK could become a global centre for this new market. London already ranks third in Airbnb’s list of top cities list for active property listings, VentureBeat reported.
Appear Here, Compare and Share, EasyCar Club, Echo, Hassle.com, Liftshare, Love Home Swap, Nimber, and One Fine Stay are also members of the trade body.
