Nutmeg scoops top startup trophy at the FinTech Innovation Awards

Last night’s FinTech Innovation Awards saw the investment platform Nutmeg take pole position in one of the most coveted categories after attracting 40,000 customers in its first three years.

The company took the top spot in the “best startup or early stage venture” category.

Design Studio, which created Nutmeg’s “Investing without the bankers” adverts, which featured on London Underground trains, buses and billboards during “ISA season”, also scooped an award for best marketing/PR campaign.

The award for FinTech Innovation of the Year went to next-generation insurance intermediary Bought by Many, which helps communities and groups to purchase insurance on better terms than they could access on their own.

“We’re very excited – this is completely unexpected,” said CEO and co-founder Steven Mendel. “Clearly having industry recognition in front of our peers is great for our company. There’s a roomful of influential people out there who now know who we are.”

The ceremony, presented by Payment Eye and Bob’s guide, was hosted by FinTech “evangelist” and stand-up comedian Julia Streets, with keynote speeches from Team GB chief Sir Clive Woodward and Dan Cobley, CEO of the FinTech incubator Brightbridge Ventures.
