Courier company receives £500,000 from SME lending specialists

Delivery firm Contact Transport will now be able to drastically improve its operations after receiving a sizeable investment from Finance Birmingham, a national provider of funding to SMEs.

Contact Transport, which began in Birmingham as a local courier firm in the 1980’s, now plans to continue its growth and challenge other courier firms in the ‘final mile’ sector. This is known as the stage in which a product is about to be delivered to the consumer.

Contact already has a large network of major clients, including Amazon and UPS. Partnerships like these can be seen as the reason why the delivery firm has reported a 60 per cent increase in turnover, recently hitting the £20m mark over the past 12 months.

‘‘Finance Birmingham’s funding will enable the company to strengthen its offer by supporting existing jobs in the region, and adding a further eight direct posts – plus many more indirect roles – over the next three years,’’ said Neil Hughes, managing director at Contact Transport.

This is not a one off investment from Finance Birmingham. The company control a £9m funding programme which is designed to finance underserved SMEs across the Birmingham area.
