Nearly a third of UK office workers are more productive working from home

According to recent research, just under a third of UK office workers say they work more productively when they are actually working outside of the office.

The research, commissioned by Redcentric and carried out by YouGov, has also discovered that over half (54 per cent) of UK office workers can actually work away from the office. Only 17 per cent of people feel they work less productively when working remotely.

Furthermore, in terms of attitude, nearly three-quarters (70 per cent) of office workers said they believe that is important for businesses to allow their employees to work remotely, whilst 22 per cent said that flexibility is unimportant.

However, despite there being a vast majority who want to work flexibly, nearly half of respondents (48 per cent) revealed that their employers do not allow them to work remotely.

The reasoning of the employers points to a different perception of flexible working, with 23 per cent of workers saying their companies do not want to offer it for reasons such as data privacy and loss of productivity.

Technology also appears to be a barrier with one out of ten (12 per cent) respondents saying that their business’ IT systems weren’t modern enough to facilitate remote working.

“Home-working can bring real benefits to almost any organisation. It not only provides flexible working arrangements for employees who need them, it also allows businesses to recruit people from any location,” said Phil Dyson, product group manager of Voice & Unified Communications at Redcentric.
