Small businesses owners and Swansea Council are set to confirm a new partnership this week with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding.
The memorandum will be signed by council leader Rob Stewart and the Swansea Bay branch chairwoman of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), Julie Williamson at the Civic Centre at 7pm.
The event marks the consolidation of the relationship that was first started in October 2013 when a similar document was signed by Stewart’s predecessor, David Phillips and the Swansea Bay branch of the FSB.
“I think it will definitely give certain opportunities to small businesses and make them feel their worth. I think they feel it is very difficult and challenging times for small businesses. Also it is not only one way. It confirms the support of small businesses to the council. At the end of the day there is no point in just criticising. We have to be quite constructive in helping them as well,” said Mrs Williamson.
She continued to say that she hopes the memorandum will inspire the local authority to shop locally when procuring services.
“I have always been very clear that Swansea is a city open for business and we need a strong relationship with small businesses,” said councillor Stewart.
