Nick Hewer set to speak at business awards show

Nick Hewer, former aid to Lord Sugar on The Apprentice, has signed up to speak at this year’s Manchester Evening News’ (MEN) Business of the Year Awards.

The former PR consultant-turned Countdown host will deliver a speech to hundreds of business owners at Manchester’s Midland Hotel.

The event, which aims to celebrate British business, is set to take place on November 12th. BBC news presenter Nicholas Owen has been confirmed to host the awards show, which is now in its 22nd year.

The show brings together small, medium and large businesses together through its award categories, which include:

  • Young business (up to three years old)
  • Turnover under £5m
  • Turnover between £5m-10m
  • Turnover £10m-25m
  • Turnover between £25m-50m
  • Turnover between £50m-100m
  • Turnover of £100m or more

The awards show contains a range of local and international sponsors, with Bolton school sponsoring one of the categories, while Turkish Airlines is sponsoring the entire show.

Another sponsor is The Manchester College, one of the largest further education centres in the North-West. The learning centre has expressed its delight at sponsoring the event.

‘‘The Manchester College is proud to be a sponsor of MEN Business of the Year. As a major community partner in Greater Manchester we are impressed by the breadth and influence of our region’s business community,’’ said a spokesman for The Manchester College.

‘‘Whether a business is young, small or has a turnover in the hundreds of millions, success begins with aspiration, knowledge and an understanding of your industry from the ground up.’’

‘‘Businesses should celebrate their achievements, particularly in our tough financial climate.’’
